Deuce & Domino crack their silence

By Lennie DiFino
Written: May 7, 2007
The WWE Tag Team Champions Deuce & Domino have an in-ring style that combines their brutal offensive maneuvers with the attitudes they bring each time they are in action. Outside the ring, the duo is very similar, carrying themselves with attitude and brutally offensive comments to this WWE.com reporter. After numerous attempts to conduct an interview with the new tag champions after they won the titles, Deuce & Domino were finally persuaded to sit and chat with WWE.com.When asked what winning the gold meant to them, Domino was quick to say, “before we won the titles we were the coolest thing ever, and after we won the titles, well, we are still the coolest thing ever.” He continued, “so it’s kind of the same, but now we are the champs. And we are happy to be the champs because you know what that means for Domino? More girls.”Domino’s partner Deuce shared those sentiments saying, “more girls for both of us.” Deuce was then slapped by his bubblegum-chewing girlfriend Cherry, who reminded him, “no girls for you, I am your girl.” After Deuce reassured Cherry, “you are my girl, absolutely,” he was fast to make sure she remained quiet for the rest of the interview. Cherry’s brother Domino then returned to business, claiming, “we came here to win the titles and nobody said we could do it, and we did it in three months. Nobody could beat London & Kendrick until Deuce & Domino – the biggest attraction in sports-entertainment – came along and took the titles on the 400th episode of SmackDown in Milan, Italy.”After pressing for an answer as to how they were able to defeat London & Kendrick, Deuce angrily said, “Deuce and Domino – that reckless style we have in the ring, we beat ‘em up, smashed ‘em, cracked ‘em in da mouth.” Deuce then added a challenge, “you got something you want to say?”While ducking for cover, WWE.com questioned Domino about the former champions’ plans to regain the WWE Tag Team Championships, which recently saw Brian Kendrick causing problems by defeating Domino in one-on-one action. “Last time I checked we were the champions, so I wouldn’t call them a problem,” he said. Deuce then interrupted once more, saying, “they (London & Kendrick) are not a thorn in our sides, they are a pebble to kick around.” Domino added, “we are the champs – Deuce & Domino, get it right before we do something about it.”The men from the Other Side of the Tracks then ended the interview, walking off admiring their titles, Cherry not far behind on her skates. The roar of the pink Cadillac could be heard in the parking lot, as Deuce & Domino’s theme music blasted from the car stereo as they drove off.

2-out-of-3 Falls Match - United States Champion Chris Benoit vs. MVP

The ongoing conflict between United States Champion Chris Benoit and Montel Vontavious Porter will add another chapter at Judgment Day when the two SmackDown Superstars face off in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match for the gold. MVP earned the right to face Benoit once more when he scored a huge victory over former rival Kane in a No. 1 Contender’s Match on SmackDown.MVP’s pursuit of championship gold has seen him push Benoit to the limit numerous times, only to watch as the experience of the Rabid Wolverine comes out on top. The flashy and confident Superstar has vowed that Benoit will be the first man to lose gold to him. Chris Benoit remains the United States Champion, and until MVP can find a way to get past the in-ring savvy of the veteran, the only bling the ballin’ Porter can flash is around his neck – not his waist.

Bangin' with Ashley

Written: May 11, 2007
In the last edition of Bangin' with Ashley, she dished on her latest band exploits and promised an exclusive interview with The Hives.
Now, for the interview with The Hives. These guys were definitely super cool. They are from Sweden.
So funny…ya know how people always ask if you know someone from a certain state, meanwhile it’s a huge state, what are the chances of you knowing that person? Well, I totally pulled that on them, only one step worse. I found out they were from Sweden, and I happen to know a model from Sweden. Mind you, all I know is she’s from Sweden, and I have no idea what part or anything. So this jacka** (that would be me), upon meeting them says, “Hey guys, do know this chick Erika Johnson, she’s a model and she lives in Sweden."
Then I realized what a jerk I sounded like…UNTIL…they said, YES we know her, she’s in some movies and such! Apparently, she’s well known over there! So yeah, they saved me from being THAT girl. The idiot.
Anyway, without further rambling, I give you the interview with Nicholas Arson of The Hives:
Q: How did you guys get involved in working with Timbaland?A: He called us. Q: He just asked? A: We knew of him and did the track around May.Q: Sweet! When Timbaland’s tracking you down, that must feel pretty good. Do you have an album coming out or tour we should know about?A: The album should be coming out this fall along with a tour around August. Lately we've been in a few places, including Miami, recording.Q: Who are your musical influences, and what would you describe your sound like?A: We listen to all kinds of music starting with ‘60s and punk. The Sonics, Before The Damned, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys and bands that were around at that same time. The Oblivions and The New Bomb Turks also. We always described our sound as something like a velvet glove with brass knuckles; brutal and sophisticated at the same time.Q: What about your style? It’s very unique. I love it. Derived from anything? (They wear all white and black fitted suits, ties and shoes, very James Bond-esque.)A: We read an article once about Spy vs. Spy from the magazine MAD, and that's where the black and white came from. And black and white photo negs. Which we all dig.Q: How did you like the video shoot overall and the track…were you happy with the way the song turned out?A: I think the song sounds great. So far we’re having fun at the shoot.Q: Have you ever watched wrestling?A: When we were young, we got cable in Sweden around nine or 10 and watched American wrestling aka WWE. We were fans from then on. Our favorites included “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Brutus the Beefcake, Andre the Giant, Ultimate Warrior and Jimmy Snuka. Q: Do you still live in Sweden?A: Yes, we still live in the same town we grew up in. Two of us live in Stockholm.Q: Where do you like touring the best?A: Southern Europe, everywhere. It’s almost the same because it’s an amazing feeling to tour. The only different feeling place is Japan. They're very organized, they do what they are supposed to do, but as a punk band, to have them react that way at a show, well, it’s kind of weird.
Thanks, Nicholas. Good Luck to all of you guys with the new album, looking forward to it!!!
So I spoke to Lita and she's got some exciting and interesting news about herself and The Luchagors coming up in the next Bangin'. So stay tuned.
Speaking of other Superstars, I've decided my next victim to interrogate is going to be none other than the Dancin’ Divas themselves: Extreme Exposé:
Q: Kelly, what music runs through your iPod most often? A: Probably hip-hop. I love rap. (Yes, I know having spent some time in the locker room with you hehe). My iPod is very ghetto fab. My favorite songs are "Throw it on Me" by Timbaland, (kiss a** hahaha, j/k) Trina, Trick Daddy, and Three 6 Mafia.
Q: How about you, Brooke? What are you into these days?A: I have a wide range of music, lots of classic rock. Def Leppard is my favorite band of all time. I also like AC/DC, Billy Idol, Ozzy, Three Days Grace, Trapt, Linkin Park, Disturbed. Then I go to rap and hip-hop like Timbaland, Ying Yang twins, even a little bit of country – Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Garth Brooks.
Q: What about you, Layla? What do you like to shake that butt to?A: Hip-hop. I love Timbaland’s whole new album. Also, “Put Some D’s on It.” I love that song by Rich Boy. The new Mya song with Lil Wayne "Lock You Down" is great too. Also, I'm listening to my old school R&B songs in a nice, slow way.
Q: As a whole, what would be the ultimate song Extreme Exposé would like to dance to on ECW?A: There's so many that it’s so hard to choose from. Ok, top three...that’s why we like doing the Exposé, because every week we get to showcase a different song and style. We like to change it up. Next on the wish list, though, would be “Cherry Pie” by Warrant for Brooke, "Sexyback" by Justin Timberlake for Kelly Kelly, And for Layla some Miami flavor, like a “Luke” song and really shake that booty!
Ok, that about wraps up this week’s edition of Bangin’. Thanks for stopping by, y’all. I think my Playboy is finally off newsstands, but can be purchased at Playboy.com if ya missed it. I still am shocked they let my piercings and tats stay. It’s such an honor for me to be breaking the mold of your "standard Playboy chick". That's what's most cool about having done this issue – paving the way for more altered beauties that aren't your cookie cutter mold. I'm proud of that, and hope this issue sells well so that different things are considered when choosing cover girls and Playmates. Thanks for listening to my rants, dudes.
Love you guys...

Speedy recovery for Kennedy?

By Zack Zeigler
Written: May 9, 2007
Edge may not want to get too comfortable wearing the World Heavyweight Championship around his Rated-R waist. WWE.com has received word that the initial prognosis for Mr. Kennedy’s arm injury was overstated.
Based on Kennedy’s extensive MRI at the Birmingham, Ala., offices of Dr. James Andrews, WWE’s Dr. Ferdinand Rios now reports that the SmackDown Superstar’s triceps tendon “was not torn from the bone as originally reported, and will not require surgery.” Due to the severity of Kennedy’s hematoma — a collection of blood within a tissue or organ — he is still not cleared to compete from a medical standpoint. “He’s still vulnerable to injury and the arm remains badly swollen,” said Dr. Rios. “I’d expect him to be out of action for about six to eight weeks.” Upon hearing the positive report, WWE.com caught up with the former Money in the Bank holder. Though clearly relieved, he’s already shifting his focus from a likely six months of recovery time to plotting his next move. “This is great news for me; I don’t have a torn muscle,” Kennedy said. “But the good news for me is really, really bad news for Edge. He took something from me…took advantage of my unfortunate situation. Now he and everyone else have just a short amount of time to worry about what I’m going to do when I get back.”
Check out Kennedy's new Talk Loud t-shirt!

Making up for lost time

By Zack Zeigler
Written: May 11, 2007
PITTSBURGH – Mark Henry faced a huge career setback late last July when his right patella tendon ripped completely off the bone. While rehabbing his knee over the past 10 months, he’s had nothing but time to quietly stew alone, rehash old memories and build a meteor-sized rage inside himself.
Where exactly is all of his anger stemming from? One locker room source told WWE.com that it might be from rumors that have been circulating — rumors that imply how Henry has failed to live up to his potential since joining WWE more than a decade ago.
“When he got injured, people began to ask, ‘Is Mark Henry a classic example of an underachiever?’” said the locker room source. “The guy’s a former Olympian and Strongman. He inked a huge deal when he signed here, yet he’s never held a World Championship. What does that say?”
Perhaps it’s that mentality which fueled Henry’s vicious ambush on Undertaker after The Deadman’s bloody, exhausting Steel Cage Match with Batista. The Phenom could barely stand, let along muster the strength to defend himself as Henry battered him with jaw-jarring punches, then capped it off with several rib-crushing splashes. Choosing to pummel a weary and wounded Undertaker after he’d already been repeatedly slammed against the unforgiving links of a steel cage wasn’t just flawless execution of the “Kick a Man When He’s Down” strategy; it could also have been Henry’s way of showing everyone that he’s removed words like “mercy,” “forgiveness” and “sympathy” from his vocabulary.
“Undertaker took something very important from me at WrestleMania 22 — my chance at being a World Champion,” said Henry, referring to their Casket Match back in April 2006. “This beating was a sample of what I can do. My message is clear and my message is effective: If you don’t do what I say, when I say to do it, you will be dealt with, just like Undertaker was.”
Did Henry think he could really erase 11 years of disappointment with one unprovoked beating? What’s “the message” he’s sending — that these attacks won’t be focused, and will be directed to anyone who’s ever crossed him? On that topic, the World’s Strongest Man is also the silent type. He did, however, shed light on how he feels about Edge piggybacking on his dirty work, cashing in his Money in the Bank contract and claiming the World Heavyweight Championship for himself.
“Edge is a talented guy and a true opportunist, but if I had known his intentions I may have had something to say about it,” Henry explained. “But the milk has already been spilled and I got my point across…that my power and vengeance will rain down on the SmackDown roster.”
That said, does the World’s Strongest Man intend to run riot through the SmackDown ranks alone? Throughout most his career, Henry has had people to help guide him. He’s been a member of the Nation of Domination; teamed with D’Lo Brown; got wrapped up in an unusual amorous relationship with Mae Young; and shared allegiances with the likes of Theodore Long, Daivari and Melina. But now all those relationships have expired, and it looks as though his newest companion is one that won’t ever leave — his knee brace. Every time his entrance music sounds and he walks down the ramp, there’s a constant reminder of the pain and sacrifice it took him to get back into the ring. That, paired with the whispers about his “underachievement,” could be a dangerous concoction for his future victims.
Whether or not the time has come for Mark Henry to elevate himself into the next stratosphere of WWE Superstardom remains to be seen. But with his newly refocused urge to prove his dominance, this human wrecking ball of hurt will be extremely difficult to stop.

Jeff Hardy

Name: Jeff Hardy
Height: 6 foot 1
Weight: 225 pounds
From: Cameron, N.C.
Signature Move: Swanton Bomb, Whisper in the Wind, Twist of Fate
Career Highlights: World Tag Team Champion; Intercontinental Champion; Hardcore Champion; European Champion; Light Heavyweight Champion; WCW Tag Team Champion
WWE Debut: 1993
Trained By: Dory Funk, Jr. Michael Hayes

Simply put, Jeff Hardy is an artist. His world revolves around writing “emoetry,” recording music (“alternative, alternative music,” according to his brother Matt), and employing tinfoil and paint to craft intimate, personal, and sometimes bizarre works of art. His house is decorated with toys, artificial plants, and life-size Japanese fiberglass sculptures. One of his most cherished creations—a thirty-foot “Aluminummy” statue called Neroameee, from Nero, his middle name—stands tall outside his studio.
Still, this artist has always been drawn to another, very different canvas—that of the squared circle. Growing up with Matt in the pinewoods of Cameron, North Carolina, 11-year-old Jeff—influenced by the likes of Ric Flair, the Fabulous Freebirds, and the Rockers—took a ramp he built for his bike and painted it to resemble an entrance stage for their “wrestling ring,” the backyard trampoline. As he grew older, so did his desire to take greater risks, whether it was to feel the rush of executing hundred-foot-high triples on his motorcross bike, or jumping off the roof of his house as a member of the brothers’ “Teenage Wrestling Federation.” It was such fearlessness and desire that would bring the 16-year-old daredevil to World Wrestling Entertainment, and after several years catapult him to worldwide fame and main-event status, first as one-half of WWE’s high-flying “Team Extreme,” The Hardys, then in singles competition.
Though many of his paintings are abstract, this free spirit is a Rembrandt inside the ring, signing his name not with the traditional paintbrush or pen, but with wildly unorthodox, high-impact maneuvers off top ropes and 20-foot ladders. His credo is simple: to create, then surpass his creation.
Unfortunately, most true artists must sink to their lowest point before attaining their greatest heights. For Jeff, frequent drug use and the wear-and-tear of living life on the road would prompt him to leave WWE in 2003. But after a three-year personal journey of refocusing his passion and energies, he now finds himself “in a positive place…and that’s what motivates me.” Returning to WWE in August 2006, this reinspired risk-taker is back to creating the art he loves most—entertaining WWE fans in arenas around the world. And his most extreme masterpiece awaits.

Chavo Guerrero

Name: Chavo Guerrero
Height: 5 foot 9
Weight: 210 pounds
From: El Paso, Texas
Signature Move: Gory Bomb, Frog Splash
Career Highlights: WCW & WWE Cruiserweight Champion; WWE Tag Team Champion

To some, wrestling is a way to get out of the regularity of life. To others, it is a legacy and tradtition that entwines a family. For Chavo Guerrero wrestling has always been a part of his family and his life.
His gene line reads something out of wrestling history; his grandfather was the legendary wrestler and promoter Gory Guerrero and his late uncle, Eddie Guerrero is a name that will continue through the ages.
“Chavito” began his quest at an early age, often wrestling with Eddie during the intermissions of Gory’s shows in Texas. After making his official in-ring debut in Mexico and traveling around the world, Chavo came to WCW in 1996, winning the Cruiserweight Championship twice during his time there.
Chavo came to WWE in 2001, and has won the Cruiserweight Championship multiple times. He is also a two-time former WWE Tag Team Champion, and fulfilled another life-long dream when he teamed with Eddie Guerrero to win the gold in 2002.
Following the tragic passing of Eddie in November 2005, Chavo has dedicated every match to his late uncle, and adopted Eddie's signature Frog Splash as his own finishing maneuver.
DisplayAd("SmallBody");
Rey Mysterio also dedicated himself to winning in Eddie’s name, and his unlikely capturing of the World Championship was an unlikely catalyst for the recent rivalry that has torn the Guerrero-Mysterio relationship apart.
At The Great American Bash, Chavo told Mysterio that he was there to help keep the championship dream alive, only to stun WWE fans worldwide when he leveled Rey with a steel chair during his match against King Booker, bringing Rey’s impossible dream to a tragic end.
Days later on SmackDown, Chavo appeared on tape, claiming not to be present in the arena, and declared, “I don’t feel I owe anyone an explanation. Not even Rey Mysterio.” Later in the night, as Mysterio challenged King Booker in a World Heavyweight Championship return match, Chavo once again interfered, costing Rey his chance to relive his dream as champion.
The following week, Chavo finally went on record to address his Bash betrayal, calling Rey “Nothing but a leech living off the blood of the Guerrero name.” This vicious speech brought the family rivalry to a head, eventually leading to SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long booking a match between Chavo and Rey to settle the score at SummerSlam.
With a hysterical Vickie looking on, Chavo and Rey attempted to squash their issues in the ring at SummerSlam. When Vickie inadvertently pulled Rey off the top rope in a desperate attempt to end the clash, Chavo seized the opportunity to defeat his former friend. Since then, a new Guerrero family alliance has been forged between Chavo and Vickie, and they have transformed Mysterio from an unlikely underdog champion to a broken spirit.
No matter who he is with or against, Chavo is still realizing his destiny as a member of one of the most celebrated families in sports-entertainment history.

EDGE

From: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Signature Move: Spear
Career Highlights: WWE Champion; World Tag Team Champion; WWE Tag Team Champion; Intercontinental Champion; WCW U.S. Champion
WWE Debut: June 1998
Trained By: Ron Hutchison & Sweet Daddy Siki

Don't pretend to think you know Edge. You didn't grow up with the Rated-R Superstar and his single-parent mother in some cramped apartment in Orangeville (a tiny Ontario town that Edge recalls offered residents two choices: "work in a factory in town, or if you're really lucky, land a job in Toronto"). You likely identified with his classmates at Princess Elizabeth Public School, carrying a hockey stick and aspiring to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Edge, meanwhile, dreamed of rocking out on a Les Paul guitar and following in the platformed footsteps of KISS. (He didn't, but it hasn't stopped him from amassing an impressive collection of signed, custom-made guitars over the years.)
If you really knew Edge, you would have noticed the "black cloud" that hung over the eight-year-old boy after a car accident claimed the life of his most-admired uncle. You would have also seen that cloud give way to the yellow and red-clad form of Hulk Hogan, whose mantra of saying prayers and taking vitamins spoke directly to Edge from the TV. Perhaps then you would have sat eleventh-row ringside with him in Toronto's SkyDome; it was there he watched Hogan face Ultimate Warrior in the "Ultimate Challenge" at WrestleMania VI, and vowed he would also headline a WrestleMania someday.Edge's pals at Don Bosco Secondary High knew he was destined for greatness, even writing in his yearbook "Most Likely to Win the WWE World Championship." Yet they couldn't predict he'd receive free wrestling training after winning an essay contest in the Toronto Star. Only his trainers, Sweet Daddy Siki and Ron Hutchison, and those training with him in Sully's Gym, could truly appreciate juggling multiple odd-jobs while wrestling in the independent circuit. But unless they were riding shotgun, they couldn't begin to comprehend Edge's "winter death tours" across frozen north Canadian lakes, or eating only canned tuna for days at a stretch, simply to wrestle in poorly attended venues.Much due-paying and a recommendation from fellow Canadian Bret "Hit Man" Hart ultimately helped Edge make his WWE debut in June 1998, though few believed he would last. So he made his opponents believe, even if it meant taking chairs to the head, falling off ladders, and crashing through tables. He's suffered a torn ACL, ruptured labra, a broken neck, a fractured skull, metal rods in his teeth, and countless stitches over the years, but not without giving as good as he's received. Ask any man-or woman-who has gone toe-to-toe with him; they'll tell you why he's called the Rated-R Superstar. You think you know Edge? Think again.

The Great Khali

Height: 7 foot 3
Weight: 420 pounds
WWE Debut: April 2006

Hailing from India, The Great Khali stands at an impressive 7 foot 3 inches and weighs 420 pounds. This enormous monster has walked the jungles of India unafraid of pythons and wrestled White Bengal tigers. Legend states that the Punjabi Warrior has "stared into the abyss and the earth trembled at his gaze."
The Great Khali was responsible for bringing the most barbaric match in WWE history to The Great American Bash: the Punjabi Prison Match. There is no telling what other brutalities The Great Khali will unleash during his stay on Raw. One of the largest athletes the WWE has ever bared witness to, The Great Khali stands to be a powerful force and a threat to every member of the locker room.

KANE

Name: Kane
Height: 7 foot
Weight: 326 pounds
Signature Move: Chokeslam
Career Highlights: WWE Champion; Intercontinental Champion; World Tag Team Champion; WCW Tag Team Champion; Hardcore Champion
Entrance Video: WATCH

At 7-feet tall and more than 300 pounds, the Big Red Monster has been tormenting opponents since his debut, and even that was huge.
Following months of speculation, Kane made his first appearance on Oct. 5, 1997, at Bad Blood. There, he ripped the cage door off during the first-ever Hell in a Cell Match between Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. Kane and Undertaker then stood toe to toe during a chilling stare-down. The Big Red Monster wore a mask, and he hid his body in attire designed to conceal hideous burns from a fire supposedly started by his half-brother Undertaker. Then, Kane kicked the Deadman in the stomach and Tombstoned him — allowing a bloody Michaels to pin Undertaker for the victory.
Despite the unprovoked attack, Undertaker vowed he would not wage war against his own flesh and blood in front of a national audience. But Kane’s assaults continued, and when he set Undertaker ablaze inside a casket at the 1998 Royal Rumble, the Phenom was left with no choice. At WrestleMania XIV, the half-brothers met for the first time in singles competition, but it was only the beginning.
After the brutal WrestleMania matchup, Kane continued to climb the ranks by beating down the opposition. At King of the Ring 1998, Stone Cold and Kane clashed in a First Blood Match for the WWE Championship. As an added stipulation, Kane promised that if he lost, he’d set himself on fire.
The match, a brainchild of Mr. McMahon, gave Kane a distinct advantage since his face and body were covered, making it nearly impossible to confirm if he was bleeding. During the match, the referee was knocked out, and Undertaker ran to the ring with a steel chair to interfere. He swung at Kane but nailed Stone Cold, busting his head wide open. When the referee regained consciousness, he saw the blood and awarded the match to the Big Red Monster. Undertaker later revealed that he intended to bust open Stone Cold so that his half-brother wouldn’t set himself on fire. This punctuated a theme in the difficult sibling relationship, as they’d battle often but align at times to achieve great success as well. They’d also innovate during their heated rivalry, inventing such contests as the Inferno Match.
DisplayAd("SmallBody");
The night following the First Blood victory, Mr. McMahon decorated the ring with a red canvas and crowned Kane the new WWE Champion. The reign lasted only one night, but it was still an amazing accomplishment considering his debut was only eight months prior. Kane did pin the WWE Champion on one other occasion, but he did so simultaneously with the Undertaker. The event was Breakdown 1998, and because the half-brothers both covered Stone Cold, neither was declared champion. Instead, the WWE Championship was vacated.
While Kane hasn’t recaptured the WWE Championship, he’s experienced enormous success. He’s a two-time Intercontinental Champion and nine-time World Tag Team Champion. He’s shown near-unprecedented versatility in the tag team ranks, winning championships with brawlers such as Stone Cold and Mankind, as well as smaller, quicker partners such as The Hurricane and X-Pac. He’s also twice won the World Tag Team Championship with his half-brother, including a reign during the Alliance Invasion when they simultaneously held the World Tag Team Championship and WCW Tag Team Championship.
But it was during his time teaming with Rob Van Dam that Kane experienced one of the most emotional nights of his career. After being egged on for weeks about becoming “soft,” Kane agreed to a “Mask vs. Championship” Match against Triple H. Despite a valiant effort, Kane lost, and as RAW came to a close, the 7-footer unmasked and revealed his face to the world.
Once the mask was removed, Kane went on a hell-bent trail of destruction. He chokeslammed RVD, Eric Bischoff and Stone Cold. Then, he set RAW announcer Jim Ross on fire. But the action that could not be tolerated was hitting WWE CEO Linda McMahon with a Tombstone. That forced Shane McMahon to return to the ring in defense of his family, but even the risk-taking Shane-O-Mac couldn’t stop the Big Red Monster’s rage.
At Survivor Series in 2003, Kane attacked Undertaker once again and buried him alive with a bulldozer. For the following months, the Deadman haunted his younger sibling before announcing that at WrestleMania XX, the two would meet one more time.
After that, Kane began randomly attacking anyone who crossed his path. He viciously assaulted Shawn Michaels, putting him out of action. He then began to make life miserable for Lita, with whom he seemed obsessed.
Thanks to victory in a “’Till Death Do Us Part” Match against Matt Hardy, Kane got what he wanted. He married an unwilling Lita, who was carrying Kane's child. But an in-ring incident on RAW injured Lita, causing her to lose the couple's unborn son and leaving Kane an emotional and angry mess. He swore vengeance on Gene Snitsky, who he held responsible.
At Taboo Tuesday, Kane faced Snitsky in a “Weapon of Choice” match. Wielding a steel chain, Kane delivered a brutal beating. But Snitsky eventually gained the upper hand, crushing Kane's throat with a steel chair. After recuperating, Kane haunted Snitsky until he exacted some measure of revenge. Then he began tormenting Trish Stratus — Lita’s nemesis — and through doing so is seemingly finally gaining his wife’s favor. In a shocking moment the April 11, 2005 edition of RAW, Kane and Lita kissed. It was the first time both parties had done so willingly and passionately. After aligning briefly with Kane, Lita has changed her allegiances now to Edge in an act of ruthless betrayal.
Kane had a hard time dealing with Lita's betrayal. Lita took it even further and continually made out with Edge in front of Kane and even flushed her wedding ring down the toilet. Edge and Lita even had their own wedding ceremony, but Kane would not allow it to go down quietly. Kane came up through the altar and chased off the couple. Kane and Edge then fought in a series of brutal matches including a Steel Cage Match and a Stretcher Match. Lita was the one who ended up needing the stretcher, though, as Kane Tombstoned her on the stage.
After a brief hiatus, Kane returned just prior to Taboo Tuesday. Because he lost out in the voting for the Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship to Shawn Michaels, he was paired up with Big Show to face World Tag Team Champions Trevor Murdoch & Lance Cade. Big Show & Kane proved to be just too much size and strength to overcome for the young tag team, and Kane won his ninth World Tag Team Championship.
Kane and his tag team partner also played a huge role in the RAW vs. SmackDown rivalry that was brewing. They were key players on RAW's team at Survivor Series, but could not lead their brand to a victory. But at Armageddon they challenged SmackDown's WWE Tag Team Champions, Rey Mysterio & Batista, to a match. Even though it was a SmackDown pay-per-view, Kane & Big Show reigned victorious in the rare Champions vs. Champions Match.
The Big Red Monster and Big Show turned back the challenge of Carlito & Chris Masters at WrestleMania 22. But just one night later, on RAW, they faced Kenny and Mikey of the Spirit Squad. If it was just a two-on-two match, the tag champs surely would have retained the gold. But the other three members of the Spirit Squad - Mitch, Nickey and Johnny - all got involved. The numbers proved to be too much to overcome, and Big Show was pinned.
That’s when things started going horribly wrong for the Big Red Monster. Kane thought that the madness and the voices would stop once May 19 came and went. Leading up to that day, the same day that Kane's adopted parents died in a fire, the Big Red Monster was hearing voices that drove him to the brink of insanity. But it didn't stop after May 19. Things only got stranger for Kane. On the May 29 edition of RAW, Kane came face to face with what appeared to be a mirror image of himself. The mysterious being was dressed like the Kane of old, complete with his old ring attire and mask. After a stare-down, the unknown man chokeslammed Kane.
Kane continued to be attacked by his “clone” until they finally met in a match at Vengeance where he found himself on the receiving end of all of his own moves. Bringing new meaning to “being your own worst enemy,” the imposter Kane defeated the real Kane with a thunderous chokeslam, Just one day later, though, Kane chokeslammed the imposter on the stage at RAW and then threw him out of the arena.
Whether it is Tag Team or singles, whether he is facing himself or someone else, one thing is for sure: Kane is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.

Carlito scorns Torrie

Written: April 30, 2007
Just moments after Carlito brutally attacked Ric Flair in a tag team match on Raw, Torrie Wilson tried to get answers from the cocky Caribbean Superstar. An irate Carlito, however, wanted no part of a conversation with the concerned Diva. Instead, he stormed out of the arena, leaving Torrie by herself. The confused Diva was then overheard saying “I guess I’ll find my own ride home.”

Good ol' jerky

As if being one of the most respected announcers in the history of sports-entertainment, a member of the WWE Hall of Fame, and a best-selling cookbook author wasn’t enough, Raw’s Jim Ross has added “jerky expert” to his long list of impressive titles.
J.R.’s love of everything BBQ has translated into a successful business venture called J.R.’s Family Bar-B-Q that includes creating delicious sauces, publishing cookbooks, event catering and even a restaurant slated to open in Norman, Okla., this June. For J.R.’s latest edible creation, he teamed with a small Oklahoma jerky company to produce a top-of-the-line snack in four delicious flavors: J.R.’s Championship Original, J.R.’s Peppered, J.R.’s Chipotle, and Slobber-Knocker Heat.
“We use all top eye of round, and we slice it with the grain so it’s not chewy,” explains the BBQ expert. “We’re really proud of it. It’s a local-made product and we babysat the production of it. I certainly wouldn’t want to sell the fans anything I wouldn’t eat!”
So, has J.R.’s quest for jerky excellence begun to pay off? “Already, in Oklahoma it’s in about 100 convenience stores, our mail-order business and our own site (http://www.jrsbarbq.com/) are doing well, and now fans worldwide can order my jerky from the WWE Shopzone on WWE.com!”
The veteran announcer, who always seems to have a way with words, chose to share some sound business advice with WWE fans, “I’ve always believed that if you produce a good product and enough people can try it, you will be successful.”
So pick up a bag or two of J.R.’s delicious jerky at WWE Shop for a slobber-knocker of a taste that will leave you yelling Boomer Sooner!

Checking in with a champion

By Zack Zeigler

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two weeks after shocking the world in Milan, Italy, by walking out with the Intercontinental Championship around his waist, Santino Marella is still dazed at how his life has changed. Reality set in when he traveled with the Raw roster from Europe to the United States, where airport security forced him to remove his newly won title from his bag.
“That’s when everything became real for me, but the whole thing has been like a dream,” he said with a proud smile. “My family is so excited for me. We’re from a simple background; now my mother and father have a son who is internationally recognized as WWE’s Intercontinental Champion. There are no words to describe that feeling.”
Inhibitions nearly got the best of Marella when the opportunity arrived in Milan. For a moment, he thought of letting the open challenge presented by Mr. McMahon go to someone else. Then, his senses — and confidence — kicked in.
“I thought, if I don’t raise my hand, and Mr. McMahon chooses the guy beside me, I’ll feel like a fool for the rest of my life,” he said.
But on that night, fortune happened to be on his side. After raising his hand among thousands of other members of the sold-out crowd, the Chairman picked him. The rest is history.
“With a little help from Bobby Lashley, all the preparations I’ve done to become a WWE Superstar paid off.”
Lashley was an integral part of making Marella a champion. One could even argue that without Lashley’s involvement, Umaga would still be wearing the gold. That’s not meant as disrespect, but someone who walks into an event a virtual nobody and walks out a champion could offend certain Superstars – especially those who have been waiting for that type of opportunity their entire professional lives.
“At first, I felt like the locker room was looking for any way to show I wasn’t worthy,” said Marella. “In time, I only hope to prove to everyone I’m a legit champion.”
Since the European tour, Marella hasn’t had much of an opportunity to defend his gold. When he is put to the test, that will be his chance to prove he’s not a flash in the pan. Until then, he claims he’s going to continue to train and prepare.
“When I have free time, I’m in the ring working out, getting better and trying to slowly gain the respect from the locker room.”

Cowboy Troy gets Raw

By Zack Zeigler
Written: April 30, 2007
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Cowboy Troy, a country music singer and current co-host of USA Network’s hit television show Nashville Star, was backstage at Gaylord Entertainment Center before a live broadcast of Monday Night Raw. While roaming the locker room area meeting WWE Superstars, the country music sensation noticed something about the world’s most recognizable Executive Assistant.
“If I took my hat off some people might mistake me for Jonathan Coachman,” he joked.
A WWE fan for nearly 30 years, Cowboy Troy couldn’t mask his excitement when asked about his favorite current Superstar. “RVD is probably my favorite right now; he’s pretty cool. But I’m just a huge WWE fan in general.”
Cowboy Troy wasn’t the only celebrity sighting at Raw. Nashville native Mark Wills joined his fellow country music star prior to the show.
“I watch WWE as much as I can,” he said, noting how travel makes it difficult to watch on a weekly basis. “I just saw 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan walking around and meeting him and some of the guys that I’ve grown up with is just awesome.”

J.R.'s Superstars of the Week - Randy Orton and Edge

By Jim Ross
Written: May 4, 2007
Greetings from under the 200X, black Resistol hat from your wannabe beef jerky impresario who is loving life and looking forward to another hot Monday Night Raw this week from the campus of Penn State University. There are some strange things going on in WWE, and especially on Monday Night Raw. Something down deep in my ample Oklahoma belly tells me that the “mood is about to change” (thanks, Tazz) on WWE’s flagship broadcast. After last week’s Raw from Nashville, Tenn., who should be named the Raw Superstar of the Week? There are certainly several viable candidates for this prestigious honor akin to being the NFL’s No. 1 draft pick (ok, so I embellish), but I refuse to consider The Great Khali for this award. Sorry “Freak O’ Nature,” but what you did Monday night was committing a series of assaults that had nothing to do with wrestling. Is Khali truly a “wrestler” in the traditional sense? Hell, no. Khali is a 7 foot 3, 420-pound giant of a man with a nasty demeanor, who obviously enjoys imposing his mighty, physical, will on whomever he chooses.
It seems that a Cena vs. Khali showdown is unavoidable at some point sooner than later. It may well be an encounter the WWE Champion never forgets. So this week after consulting our guest panel of experts including: Jack Brisco, Outback Jack, Dandy Jack Donovan, Jack Doan, Jackie Fargo and Jack the Wonder Pony this week’s winner is…….a tie. Randy Orton and Edge share our Raw Superstar of the Week honors. They will each receive lovely “parting gifts” of the BBQ variety. How appropriate is giving these two talented, egomaniacs “beef jerky” for winning the Holy Grail of Hype?? Edge vs. Orton had one of the best matches ever on Monday Night Raw, and certainly rivals the Cena vs. HBK match from London a few weeks ago. I personally feel that was the best match I have seen on Raw this year. Both these Superstars may be problematic individuals, but no one can deny their talent inside the ring. I have answered many questions on these two problem children on www.jrsbarbq.com, as many of you know. Is Melina having an adverse affect on Johnny Nitro? It seems that Nitro has been in a minor slump ever since Melina won the WWE Women’s Championship. Melina may be a sexy champion, but she’s still a Jezebel in my eyes, and nothing but trouble. However, that’s only one man’s opinion, which brings me to the Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy match Monday night. Jeff, he of the rainbow hair and rock star ovation, beat Nitro easier than I would have thought. I think Nitro is a future major Superstar, but a certain woman could kill that concept. Jeff Hardy is arguably as popular as anyone in WWE, on any brand, and I’m interested to see how 2007 unfolds for the younger Hardy brother. And what’s up with Cade and Murdoch? Could their seemingly newfound sportsmanlike attitude be much ado about nothing? I liked what the redneck tag team had to say Monday night, and I hope it was all true but somehow… Helluva match between RVD and Umaga Monday night, with Umaga winning a close one. RVD never goes down easy, though. Rob may appear to be laid-back more often than not, but he is a gameday player. Umaga is too much for most people, including RVD in Nashville. Umaga is obviously getting better, which isn’t warm and fuzzy news for those in WWE who may have to face the Samoan Bulldozer. With Umaga, seemingly back on the friends of the McMahon family list, (a list I hear will fit on a post ‘em); the massive athlete should have bright days ahead as long as he doesn’t disappoint the Chairman. Carlito’s controversial actions Monday night did not come as a huge surprise – especially to Ric Flair. Carlito had the opportunity to sit under one of the most coveted “learning trees” in the business, but instead chose to act like a spoiled jackass. Too bad. That lack of character may be the beginning of the end for Carlito. It could also become the beginning to a great, refreshed career in WWE. Time will tell, but there are some stiff knife-edge chops in Carlito’s future if I know “Naitch,” and I do. I wonder if Torrie Wilson approved of Carlito’s actions of Monday night. In the ring that is, of course. So Mr. Kennedy is going to wait until WrestleMania 24 to exercise his Money in the Bank contract. Why do I feel that is a pickup truck load of chicken litter? Hey, Kennedy, who is big star bound, may be shooting straight, but he doesn’t have a long-standing track record of such. Plus, what was he doing on Raw Monday knowing Kennedy is a Friday Night SmackDown Superstar? I wish Kennedy was on Raw full time, but that’s another story. It’s always fun to visit Happy Valley, the home of Penn State University and the ageless Joe Paterno. Monday will be no different, except we are not going in the dead of winter. Now, getting to Happy Valley is another story, especially when one’s journey starts in Norman, Okla., but Delta Airlines will get the job done. BOOMER SOONER!J.R.

The Great Khali clobbers John Cena with a clothesline.

The Raw locker room is on notice as Raw prepares to invade the Bryce-Jordan Center on the campus of Penn State University Monday night.
Last week, The Great Khali made his intentions known: he wants the WWE Championship. After laying out Shawn Michaels, Edge and Randy Orton (with the attack on Michaels ruining a scheduled Cena vs. HBK battle), Khali hit the ring and laid out John Cena.
This week, Cena will battle Orton. But with HBK having been denied an opportunity, Edge upset about not getting another one and Khali on the prowl, no one is safe. Will The Champ or The Legend Killer survive long enough to come out on top?
Also this week, there will be a major announcement regarding the main event of Judgment Day, and that announcement will kick off the show right at 9/8 CT. What will that announcement be, and wiill it shed any light on the complicated WWE Title picture?
Last week, the alliance between Ric Flair and Carlito came to an end when the Southpaw from San Juan attacked Flair during a tag team match. After seeing Flair and Carlito brawl up the entrance ramp, it became clear that there is some serious animosity between these two. What will happen after a week of separation?
Find out all this and more on Raw, Monday night at 9/8 CT on USA Network.

Lashley Suffering from Rotator Cuff Injury

By Bryan Robinson Former ECW World Champion Bobby Lashley is nursing a damaged rotator cuff.
Written: May 1, 2007
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After visiting famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews to have his injured shoulder examined, Bobby Lashley learned that he has a damaged rotator cuff but will not need surgery at this time.
The former ECW World Champion injured his shoulder during Sunday’s 3-on-1 Handicap Match at Backlash, where he lost the title to Mr. McMahon. It has been suggested that Lashley's shoulder injury had been lingering since WrestleMania 23 and that he may further aggravated the injury during Backlash.
Dr. Andrews is respected as the preeminent physician athletes seek when they suffer sports injuries. He performed surgery on Triple H after “The Game” tore his quadriceps muscles on two separate occasions.

HULK HOGAN

Name: Hulk Hogan
Height: 6 foot 7
From: Venice Beach, CA
Signature Move: Leg Drop
Career Highlights: WWE Champion; WCW Champion; World Tag Team Champion; Royal Rumble winner (1990 & 1991); inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005
Entrance Video: WatcH
Hulk Hogan is arguably the most famous WWE Superstar of all time. World Wrestling Entertainment was never the same after Hogan replaced an injured Bob Backlund and defeated The Iron Sheik for the WWE Championship on January 23, 1984, at Madison Square Garden. A phenomenon was born.
The blonde and muscle-bound Hogan, sporting his trademark 24-inch pythons, urged youngsters to say their prayers and eat their vitamins. His historic championship run would last nearly four years, a reign nobody has even come close to matching in the last two decades. Hogan's success brought unprecedented mainstream attention to wrestling, even landing Hogan in television and movie roles.
He took on all comers and soundly defeated the likes of Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and King Kong Bundy. Then at WrestleMania III, in front of a record-breaking crowd at the Pontiac Silverdome, Hogan met his toughest challenge to date. Hogan was forced to defend the WWE Championship against his former friend, the undefeated Andre the Giant. In one of the most memorable moments in professional wrestling history, Hogan lifted the mighty Giant in the air for a body slam before pinning the Hall of Famer for the win.
Hogan would eventually lose the championship to Andre the Giant in 1988 in a controversial match, but would regain it in April 1989 when he defeated another former friend, Randy "Macho Man" Savage. Between 1989 and 1993, Hogan, known for his powerful and often imitated leg drop, would hold the championship four times.Amazingly, Hogan headlined eight of the first nine WrestleManias, highlighted by his WrestleMania III victory over Andre the Giant at the Pontiac Silverdome before more than 90,000 fans. Hogan, who also had memorable rivalries with Ultimate Warrior, Undertaker and Sgt. Slaughter, also won the Royal Rumble in 1990 and 1991.
He left for WCW in 1994, where he shocked the world and helped form the New World Order with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash two years later. Hogan won the WCW Championship six times between 1994 and 1999.
DisplayAd("SmallBody");
Hogan returned to WWE in January 2002, eventually facing The Rock at WrestleMania X8 in Toronto. Hogan returned to WWE donning the black and white colors of the nWo, but the fans demanded that he go back to his traditional colors of red and yellow, and Hogan was more than happy to oblige. After returning to the red and yellow, Hogan defeated Triple H to win his sixth WWE Championship, and also teamed with Edge to win his first-ever World Tag Team Championship.
After leaving WWE once again in 2003, Hogan returned to the spotlight when he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame prior to WrestleMania 21. At the induction ceremony, the fans chanted for "One More Match," a request that took the Hulkster by surprise. The next night, he gave the fans another memorable WrestleMania moment when he saved Eugene from an attack.
If the fans weren't enough to draw Hogan back to the ring, a plea from another legendary Superstar certainly was. In April 2005, Shawn Michaels needed a tag-team partner to face the same men that Hogan had taken out at WrestleMania. He begged the Hulkster to listen to the fans, and Hogan finally accepted the request. At Backlash, Hogan and HBK teamed up and were victorious.
However, things soon turned sour in their relationship. After another tag-team victory with HBK on RAW in July, Michaels stunned the world by nailing the Hulkster with Sweet Chin Music. HBK later challenged Hogan to a match at SummerSlam, claiming he needed to face him one on one to validate his own legacy. Hogan accepted the challenge, and when Legend and Icon met at SummerSlam, it was the Hulkster who walked away victorious. After the match, HBK and Hogan shared a handshake in a show of respect.
After a brief appearance at Raw Homecoming in October 2005, Hogan would not return again until July 2006. Along with daughter Brooke, the Hulkster appeared on Saturday Night's Main Event. There, the Hogans were accosted by Randy Orton, who eventually RKOed Hogan onto a car and challenged him to a match at SummerSlam. Hogan accepted, and his perfect SummerSlam record stayed intact when he pinned Orton at the Biggest Party of the Summer.

CHRIS BENOIT

Name: Chris Benoit
Height: 5 foot 11
Weight: 220 pounds
From: Atlanta (originally from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada)
Signature Move: Crippler Crossface
Career Highlights: World Heavyweight Champion; World Tag Team Champion; Intercontinental Champion; United States Champion; WWE Tag Team Champion; 2004 Royal Rumble Winner; WCW Tag Team Champion, WCW Television Champion; ECW Tag Team Champion
WWE Debut: Jan. 31, 2000
Trained By: Stu Hart
Entrance Video: WATCH

Two things you immediately notice about Chris Benoit: 1) he’s a man of few words, and 2) he’s one of the greatest technical wrestlers alive. Family and friends have always described him as “quiet” and “soft-spoken,” but his fellow WWE Superstars know better; they know that once Benoit steps inside the ring, he turns into the Rabid Wolverine, whose bite is infinitely worse than any bark.
“Wrestling has consumed my life,” he says. “It’s my mistress, my passion. It defines a lot of who I am as a person.”
It’s somehow fitting that this decorated WWE titleholder began defining himself in Edmonton, the Alberta-based “City of Champions,” as a 12-year-old attending his first live wrestling event at the Old Pavilion. He says that from the moment he saw the Dynamite Kid in ring action, “I wanted to be just like him.” When he wasn’t at home lifting the weights his parents gave him one Christmas, he was training on the football field or in the gym of Archbishop O’Leary High School (where his teachers would occasionally have to remind him to come to class). Or he was traveling with friends to wrestling venues throughout Edmonton and Calgary, becoming regular fixtures to the point where they often helped set up the ring and chairs.
Upon graduating high school, Benoit’s wrestling education ranged from months of torturous training in the renown Calgary “Dungeon” of the legendary Stu Hart, to years in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, where he’d meet best friends Dean Malenko (now a WWE producer) and the late Eddie Guerrero. Benoit’s toothless smile grows whenever he remembers meeting Eddie during New Japan’s Super J Cup Tournament Semifinals—and knocking him out with an enzugiri kick to the head. “That was the beginning of our friendship,” he laughs.
Despite his well-earned reputation for “toothless aggression,” the Rabid Wolverine is a paradox of sorts. He confesses to feeling “freaked out” after breaking Sabu’s neck at ECW’s November 2 Remember in 1994, and hearing then-ECW owner Paul Heyman refer to him as “The Crippler.” He recalls celebrating in the ring with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin almost more than his unlikely win at the 2004 Royal Rumble. (“For the first time in my life,” he admits, “I actually drank a whole beer.”) And it’s hard to believe that someone who made Triple H tap out to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XX was originally “very nervous” about joining World Wrestling Entertainment four years earlier. “If you were ever going to make a name for yourself in this industry,” he explains, “WWE was the place to be.”
DisplayAd("SmallBody");
Chris Benoit has certainly made a name for himself here, and continues to do with every match. As for his missing front tooth, the Rabid Wolverine lost it while play-wrestling with his pet Rottweiler; the dog’s head collided with his chin, causing the tooth to pop out. If the Rottweiler was smart, he didn’t seek a rematch.

Shawn Michaels

D-Generation X has re-united, and it seems as if they are better than ever. Just three weeks after suffering a knee injury at the hands of the Squad, HBK returned on the June 12 Raw. As Triple H was facing the Squad 5 on 1, Michaels made a surprise return by attacking Mitch. After a brief staredown with Mr. McMahon, HBK charged the ring to help The Game fight off the remaining members of the Squad. When the ring was clear, the two men exchanged a high five and did their signature DX crotch chop in the direction of the WWE Chairman.
DX "officially" reunited the next week, and their fingerprints could be found all over Raw. You can take a full look at the carnage they caused here, and you can check out their special Superstar section for a look back at the history of D-Generation X.
When he’s paired with Triple H, Shawn Michaels is known for his rebel antics outside the ring, and his ferociousness inside of it. While Triple H was out on personal business during the July 24 edition of Raw, HBK felt what it was like to get run over by the Samoan Bulldozer. During his match with Jonathan Coachman — which the Chairman set up — Michaels not only manhandled Coachman, but all five members of the Spirit Squad as well. What he didn’t anticipate was that Umaga, the undefeated Samoan monster, was lurking behind him waiting to attack.
After the beating, Michaels was left in the ring struggling to catch his breath, and he needed assistance getting to the locker room. When he meets Umaga on Raw this week, HBK will want to prove that the Samoan Bulldozer needed to blindside him in order to get one over on the Showstopper.
At Vengeance, the Spirit Squad fell to the powerhouse that is DX in a 5-on-2 Handicap Match, so the McMahon men decided to take things into their own hands the next night on Raw. While it was supposed to be DX vs. The McMahons, DX instead came out and impersonated them with Triple H playing the WWE Chairman and HBK as Shane-o-Mac. Later, after telling the McMahons that they were full of crap, DX had actual human waste dumped on them (and the Spirit Squad as well) as they stood on the entrance stage.
DisplayAd("SmallBody");
While the odds continually seem stacked against HBK in his war with the McMahons and the Spirit Squad, he has made a career out of overcoming the odds and rising to the top.
Whether you know him as the Showstopper, the Main Event or the Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels is one of the most successful Superstars in WWE history. Throughout a nearly 20-year career in WWE, HBK has done it all, from winning the Royal Rumble to being a multiple-time WWE Champion. Never one to back down from a challenge no matter the odds, HBK has shown that he is one of the most dedicated and courageous WWE Superstars to ever grace the ring; he is unanimously considered one of the greatest wrestlers to ever compete and has become one of the cornerstones of Raw.
Michaels’ track record speaks for itself, as he has accumulated enough hardware to make just about any WWE Superstar jealous. Michaels was the first-ever Grand Slam Champion, capturing the European Championship once, the World Tag Team Championship three times, the Intercontinental Championship three times and the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships a total of four times.
But his success didn’t happen overnight. HBK knew he wanted to be a professional wrestler since he was 12 years old, when he saw his first match. Michaels’ athletic career began at age six when he started playing football, and he eventually became a stand-out linebacker and a captain on his high school team. After graduating, he attended Southwest Texas State University, but soon realized that college wasn’t the path he wanted to follow. Michaels thought it was time to begin chasing his dream of becoming a WWE Superstar.
HBK began his training under the tutelage of Jose Lothario. After a few months of training, Lothario felt that his protégé was ready for some in-ring action, and two weeks after his 19th birthday, HBK had his first match with Mid-South Wrestling against Art Cruz. He lost his debut match, but he improved in his second match, wrestling to a time-limit draw, and then won his third match. After a stop in Kansas City, Michaels was headed back to his home state to Texas All-Star Wrestling.
It was there that he teamed up with Paul Diamond to make up the team of American Force. The combination was a successful one, as they were able to capture the Texas All-Star Tag Team Championships twice. After about three months, Michaels headed to the American Wrestling Alliance (AWA) with a friend he had met in Kansas City. That friend was Marty Jannetty, who went on to become HBK’s tag team partner. The duo was dubbed the Midnight Rockers.
They quickly became one of the hottest teams in the AWA, catching the eye of WWE, who invited the Midnight Rockers to a live event for a tryout. WWE officials felt they were a bit too immature at that time, so the Midnight Rockers headed back to the AWA. But WWE hadn’t heard the last of Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty.
While back in the AWA, the Midnight Rockers captured the Southern Tag Team Championship twice and won the AWA Tag Team Championship for a second time. All of the hardware the Midnight Rockers had been sporting again caught the eye of those with WWE, and this time Michaels and Jannetty made the most of it. They both signed contracts, dropped the “Midnight” from their name, and The Rockers were born.
Because of their high-flying abilities and boyish good looks, The Rockers became an instant hit with both male and female fans of all ages. They made their pay-per-view debut at the 1988 Survivor Series, as they successfully teamed with The Powers of Pain, The Young Stallions, The Hart Foundation and the British Bulldogs. After making their Royal Rumble debut in 1989, the two had a classic encounter with the Twin Towers (Big Boss Man and “The African Dream” Akeem) at WrestleMania V. Their mammoth opponents proved to be just too big to handle, but the high-flyers kept the giants off balance almost the entire match — making all other teams take immediate notice of their potential.
In 1990, the Rockers earned themselves a Tag Team Championship match against the Hart Foundation. The Rockers came out on top, but during the match, the top rope buckled. Days after the match, it was ruled that since the rope had broken, the match as invalid, and the titles were returned to the Hart Foundation. This was the only time the Rockers would approach tag team gold in WWE.
The Rockers were back in Survivor Series in 1991, teaming up with the Bushwhackers against The Nasty Boys and The Beverly Brothers. After a mistake by Jannetty caused Michaels to be eliminated, HBK walked out on his partner, later explaining his actions by saying that he had been carrying the team and was fed up. A couple months later, the two met on a segment of Brutus Beefcake’s “Barber Shop” to try and iron out their differences. Just when it appeared that the Rockers were back together, Michaels superkicked Jannetty and threw him head-first through one of the Shop’s glass windows. The Rockers were no more.
The breakup of the Rockers was the end of a successful tag team career for Michaels, but it also meant the birth of a singles career that would propel The Showstopper to new heights. Michaels promptly added Sensational Sherri as his manager, and on Oct. 27, 1992, he dethroned the British Bulldog to become Intercontinental Champion. By the time the Royal Rumble rolled around in January 1993, Jannetty was fully recovered and had revenge on his mind. The two squared off at the pay-per-view, and during the match Jannetty was about to smash a mirror over HBK’s head. Instead, Michaels shoved Sherri in front of him, allowing her to take the full brunt of the mirror’s impact. Even though Michaels retained the title, Sherri left him for Jannetty based on the incident.
After losing Sherri, Michaels had a void to fill by his side. Instead of going for an attractive and cunning sidekick, HBK employed the services of Diesel, a man who epitomized brute force. Michaels was forced to give up his Intercontinental Championship because he had not defended it within 30 days, but at WrestleMania X, Michaels returned and faced Razor Ramon in the first-ever pay-per-view Ladder Match for the championship, a match that is still talked about today as one of the greatest WrestleMania matches of all time. After brutalizing each other with innovative moves that had never been seen before, Razor Ramon came out on top.
But the Showstopper wouldn’t let himself stay down for long. Michaels and Diesel picked off the Headshrinkers for the World Tag Team Championship, Michaels’ first tag team championship reign. However, HBK abandoned the titles at Survivor Series that November after an argument with Diesel, and went back to focusing on his singles career.
And what better way to get back into the WWE Championship hunt than make a big splash at the Royal Rumble. In 1995, Michaels entered the January classic at No. 1. It seemed like he was merely being thrown to the dogs at such a number, as no one had ever won after being the first participant. HBK was out to make history, but the British Bulldog had the same thoughts on his mind. Bulldog entered at No. 2, and just as he and Michaels stood alone in the ring at the beginning of the match, it was the same pair going toe to toe at the end of the match. After gaining the upper hand, the Bulldog clotheslined Michaels over the top rope, but only one of his feet touched the floor. Thinking that the win was his, Bulldog turned his back on Michaels and began his victory celebration. Michaels snuck back into the ring and knocked out the unsuspecting Bulldog to win his first Royal Rumble.
Michaels went on to WrestleMania to compete for the WWE Championship, but his former bodyguard Diesel was able to retain. After a couple of months at each other’s throats, the pair patched up their differences and moved onward. HBK went on to defeat Jeff Jarrett for his third Intercontinental Championship but was challenged soon after by a familiar foe: Razor Ramon. After their historic battle at WrestleMania X, there was only one way to settle the score: with another Ladder Match. So, the two hooked up for their second Ladder Match at SummerSlam. Learning from his past mistakes, HBK came out on top and retained his title in another classic match that arguably was even more brutal than the first.
Due to injuries, Michaels was forced to vacate the championship once again after not defending within the mandatory 30 days. He would rebound with a vengeance, however, winning the Royal Rumble for a second straight year. The win earned him a WWE Championship shot at WrestleMania XII against the “Excellence of Execution” Bret Hart, and the two met in a 60-minute WWE Iron Man Match that stole the show. The goal was to score the most pinfalls or submissions in the allotted time, but these two WWE Superstars put forth such gutsy performances that neither competitor had notched a win in the entire 60 minutes. Hart had Michaels in the center of the ring trapped in the Sharpshooter with seconds remaining, but HBK was able to suck it up until the bell rang. President Gorilla Monsoon made his way down to ringside and informed the referee to restart the match and continue under sudden death rules. After Hart had worked on HBK’s back, Michaels came from nowhere to hit Sweet Chin Music. Too tired to capitalize, Michaels got up and cued up the band one more time, which was finally enough to win his first-ever WWE Championship.
There was no rest for the weary, however, as Michaels had to start defending his championship right away. HBK proved to be one of the fightingest champions in history, as he defeated the likes of Diesel, British Bulldog, Vader, Mankind and Goldust. Michaels’ reign had to come to an end sometime, and it was another of Shawn’s former bodyguards, Sycho Sid, who dethroned the champ at Survivor Series 1996. With the ref knocked out, Sid commandeered a television camera and hit Michaels over the head with it, then powerbombed him for the win.
Michaels regrouped, though, and again learned from his mistakes. In a rematch at the 1997 Royal Rumble, HBK used a trick from Sid’s playbook, using a television camera to knock down his giant foe. The camera wasn’t enough as Sid kicked out at two, but Michaels laid him out with Sweet Chin Music for the win. The reign only lasted a few weeks, however; just as Michaels had to forfeit his Intercontinental Championship without defeat, he relinquished the WWE Championship after claiming to have “lost his smile.”
After months of searching, HBK returned to WWE and formed an unlikely pairing with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Although the two shared a hatred for each other, they also shared a hatred for the Hart Foundation. They put their differences aside and went out to fight for their common goal, and it led to the Showstopper’s second World Tag Team Championship reign. After their relationship deteriorated, Michaels turned to people he thought he could trust, and what happened next revolutionized WWE.
Michaels paired up with Triple H and Chyna to form D-Generation X, a group that defied authority and marched to the beat of their own drum. They employed the use of vulgarity and obscene gestures and spit in the face of those that tried to stop them. On Sept. 20, 1997, Michaels defeated the British Bulldog for the European Championship, which in turn made him the first-ever winner of the Grand Slam.
After basically handing the European Championship to Triple H in a farce of a match, Michaels was once again focused on the WWE Championship. Little did Michaels know, though, that to become the No. 1 Contender for Bret Hart’s WWE Championship, he would have to travel to hell and back — Hell in a Cell, that is. HBK faced Undertaker at Bad Blood in the first ever Hell in a Cell Match. Michaels was beaten to a bloody mess, but he tried to stay strong. At one point, he was thrown off the side of the cage into an announce table, and things were not looking very good. Just then, Undertaker’s brother Kane made his WWE debut and obliterated the Deadman. Michaels, barely able to pull himself up, was able to take advantage and make the cover.
That gave HBK the right to go on to Survivor Series to face Bret Hart in “The Montreal Incident” — one of the most controversial matches in WWE history. After another grueling battle with his familiar opponent, Michaels locked in Bret’s finishing move, the Sharpshooter. Earl Hebner, who was officiating the match, inexplicably called for the bell, even though it appeared as though Bret had not given up. A confused Michaels took the belt and quickly exited to the back with his third WWE Championship, while Hart fumed in the ring.
Michaels’ highly successful WWE career was in jeopardy following the 1998 Royal Rumble, where HBK squared off against Undertaker in a Casket Match. During the match, Michaels landed awkwardly on the casket and severely injured his back. Barely able to move and again with the help of Kane, Michaels was able to retain his title. Michaels refused to let the injury take him out, though, and he moved on to WrestleMania XIV where he faced Stone Cold, with “Iron” Mike Tyson as the special enforcer. Michaels, who was visibly in pain the entire match, put forth a gutsy performance, but in the end it wasn’t enough to win. The match was thought to have been his last ever, as he required what many thought was career-ending back surgery.
But nothing can keep the Showstopper down forever. Michaels returned to Raw on June 3, 2002, as the newest member of the nWo. Soon after joining, though, Vince McMahon disbanded the group and Michaels was back on his own. He convinced Triple H to join him on Raw, and when the two got back together, Triple H encouraged Michaels to re-form D-X. However, when Michaels was about to put on an old D-X shirt, Triple H pedigreed his former friend. The following week, Michaels was thrown through a car window by an unknown assailant. Security footage, however, revealed that it was the work of Triple H, who was afraid that Michaels was going to steal the spotlight away from him. This kicked off what has been, arguably, the most vicious rivalry WWE fans have ever seen.
Their first encounter came at SummerSlam in a Street Fight. WWE fans everywhere were wondering if Michaels would be able to go back to his high-flying and daredevil ways, but he would answer those questions rather quickly. Michaels was flying around the ring and even used an elbow smash off of a ladder and a plancha through a table. In the end, he was able to reverse a Pedigree attempt for the pin. After the match, Triple H took out Michaels with a sledgehammer, signifying that the battle had indeed just begun.
At Survivor Series, Michaels and Triple H participated in the first ever Elimination Chamber Match, with HBK coming out on top to win the World Heavyweight Championship from his sworn enemy.
The rivalry went to another level at Armageddon. The two Superstars went at it in a best two-out-of-three falls match, but there was a catch. The first match was a Street Fight, the second match was a Steel Cage Match and the third was a Ladder Latch — the same match that HBK made famous. Triple H took the first fall in the Street Fight; HBK won the Cage Match, but Triple H was able to beat Michaels at his own game in the Ladder Match to take back the World Heavyweight Championship.Triple H and Michaels took a break from each other after that, but HBK was brutally attacked by Chris Jericho on an edition of Raw on March 3. The beating led to a classic match at WrestleMania XIX. The two shared similar styles, and while Jericho had youth on his side, Michaels was able pull out the victory. After the match, Jericho gave Michaels a hug, but it was a ploy as he nailed him with a low-blow.
Michaels then turned his trust towards Ric Flair in a Handicap Match against Triple H, but it proved to be a poor judgment. Flair turned on Michaels as Evolution re-formed and beat down Michaels. Flair and Orton followed the beating up with singles victories, but Michaels bounced back with wins over Orton and Batista and then went to a draw with Triple H in a Last Man Standing Match at the Royal Rumble 2004.
Chris Benoit won the Rumble Match that same night, earning him a shot at Triple H’s World Heavyweight Championship. Michaels, however, wanted Triple H all for himself. During Benoit’s contract signing, Michaels knocked Benoit out and signed his own name to the contract. To clear up the controversy, a Triple Threat Match was signed for WrestleMania XX. The match went on to become one of the greatest main events in WrestleMania history, but Benoit came out on top. The three met up again one month later, but the result was the same. The two matches weren’t enough to put their rivalry to rest, though.
Triple H again faced Michaels at Bad Blood in a bloody, 45-minute Hell in a Cell Match. Triple H ultimately managed two Pedigrees in a row for the win. The following night on Raw, Jim Ross tried to get the two to bury the hatchet, but the meeting was unceremoniously interrupted by Kane who brutally attacked Michaels. Kane placed Michaels’ throat in a folding a chair and then stomped on it off the ropes, crushing HBK’s larynx in the process.
Michaels returned Sept. 12 at Unforgiven and won a No-Disqualification Match over Kane, gaining his revenge. One month later, Michaels beat out Edge and Benoit in fan voting at Taboo Tuesday to win a shot at Triple H’s World Heavyweight Championship one more time. Unfortunately, the night before Taboo Tuesday on Raw, Michaels severely injured his knee. Barely able to move, Michaels still made it out for his match at Taboo Tuesday and put forth a valiant effort. Just when Michaels had Triple H lined up for “Sweet Chin Music,” Edge, who was jealous he didn’t receive the opportunity, appeared and speared The Showstopper. Michaels lost, and went in for knee surgery the next day.
Michaels miraculously appeared on the next edition of Raw with a message of appreciation for the WWE fans. Upon his return, he sought out Edge for retribution. After facing Edge at the Royal Rumble, Michaels was attacked by Kurt Angle, kicking off the rivalry that continued throughout 2005.
The two former champions met up for the first time ever in a dream match at WrestleMania 21. They performed a clinic that has become a standout WrestleMania moment, with Angle making the Showstopper tap out to the vicious Ankle Lock. Fans thought this classic was a once in a lifetime match; Angle was on SmackDown and Michaels was on Raw, so the odds of them meeting up again were slim to none. However, once Angle was drafted to Raw in the 2005 Draft Lottery, the rematch was inevitable, and the two went at it again at Vengeance. It was thought to be impossible to live up to their classic at WrestleMania, but they defied the odds. In another epic clash, HBK was able to even the score at 1-1 when he knocked Angle out with Sweet Chin Music for the win. With the rivalry tied, a rubber match was sure to be right around the corner.
But first, Shawn Michaels wanted to give back to the fans with another dream match. He shocked everyone with the kick heard ‘round the world when he turned on tag team partner Hulk Hogan, leveling the Hall of Famer with Sweet Chin Music. The fans wanted “one more match” from the Hulkster, so HBK gave Hogan the incentive to give the fans just that. The two met up in an unforgettable showdown at SummerSlam, but no matter what Michaels did, he couldn’t overcome the Immortal one. In the end, a defeated Michaels buried the hatchet with the Hulkster, shaking his hand in the ring.
Weeks later, when Angle was demanding a second shot at John Cena’s WWE Championship, Shawn Michaels took exception and said that he wanted a shot at the gold as well. Mr. McMahon, who was on hand at RAW for a special announcement, said that they could make their cases for a title shot in a 30-Minute WWE Iron Man Match at WWE Homecoming. And once again, the fans were treated to an instant classic. However, as Michaels had Angle pinned following Sweet Chin Music, the time limit expired with both combatants having won two falls apiece. HBK offered to go into sudden death, but Angle refused and simply walked away, leaving the match as a draw.
HBK & Angle would meet again at Taboo Tuesday, as HBK won the fans’ vote to face Angle & John Cena in a Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship. HBK was unable to walk away with the gold that night, but soon found himself in an even bigger role: captain of Team Raw at Survivor Series. As for his rivalry with Angle, Michaels would eventually win the rubber match with in January before Angle departed for SmackDown.
Following Raw’s loss to SmackDown at Survivor Series, Michaels turned his sights back to the WWE Championship, qualifying for the Elimination Chamber Match at New Year’s Revolution. However, he made what may be the biggest mistake of his career on the night after Christmas 2005, when he told Mr. McMahon to get over the Montreal Incident.
After that, McMahon promised to screw HBK worse than Bret Hart had ever been screwed. After threatening to take him out of the Elimination Chamber and even banning Sweet Chin Music during a match, McMahon got his biggest victory at the Royal Rumble, when Shane McMahon made a shocking return and eliminated HBK from the Royal Rumble Match. That turned out to be only the first salvo in a war that has gone on throughout 2006.

During a match against the Spirit Squad on the May 22 Raw, Shawn Michaels suffered a knee injury that kept him out of action for a few weeks. That night, Michaels took on all five members of the Spirit Squad in the main event. It seemed like he might overcome the odds once again, but as he tried to nail Nicky with Sweet Chin Music, he instead met a chair right ot the knee. The Squad then viciously went after the knee, with Kenny driving the final spike when he dropped a guillotine legdrop on HBK's leg while it was wedged inside a steel chair. Mr. McMahon even had Triple H on hand that night to finish HBK off with a sledgehammer, but Michaels was spared; when Kenny stole the weapon from The Game to do it himself, Triple H instead attacked the World Tag Team Champions. Unfortunately for HBK, the damage had already been done.
